SEMESTER IN NEW YORK PROGRAMS

International Finance Semester

OVERVIEW

The Levin Graduate Institute offers a semester long, 15-credit intensive learning experience in International Finance and Global Banking. The program is for individuals seeking to deepen their knowledge of global capital markets and cross-border financial management. Taught by industry experts in New York City, the program draws on the unique access and resources of The Levin Graduate Institute and New York's international finance and investment community.

Students study with leading faculty as well as experienced practitioners.
 

The program includes:

  • Collaborative, real-world Global Action Projects (GAP) in which students work with major multinational corporations or banks to address real problems or expand opportunities in global finance; firms in 2008 included General Atlantic, Brysam, John Hancock, HSBC, and the New York City Economic Development Corporation
  • Case studies based on real-life, real-time decisions made by multinational institutions under conditions of extreme uncertainty
  • Site visits to key institutions, such as 2008 visits to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the closing session of the United Nations PRME Conference with Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, Brown Brothers Harrison, and the Brazilian Consulate
  • Interactive sessions and Distinguished Speaker Series where top industry professionals come into the classroom and give talks on their industries, companies and growth; 2008 speakers included two Novel Laureates from Bloomberg Headquarters and top professionals from Standards and Poor, and Citibank among others
  • Projects and site meetings focused on a specific country, past countries included Brazil, Switzerland, and China; the 2009 focus country is Canada
  • Individualized networking experiences, with organizations such as the Asia Society, Japan Society, Foreign Policy Association, HEC of the University of Montreal (business school), and the Carnegie Council
