Mr. Tagliabue, the former Commissioner of the National Football League, is the founding Chairman of the Levin Institute. He received his undergraduate education at Georgetown University and earned a law degree from New York University. He has served as a policy analyst in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations where he serves on the Homeland Security Task Force. Before becoming NFL Commissioner in 1989 he was a partner in the Washington law firm of Covington & Burling.
George E. Pataki, the 53rd Governor of New York State, was elected on November 8, 1994, and re-elected in 1998 and 2002. Before being elected Governor, George Pataki served 10 years in the state Legislature and was Mayor of his hometown, Peekskill, New York.
Governor Pataki was instrumental in developing the Levin Institute.
Ms. Ferer is a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and of the Board of Directors of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, as well as New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Special Assistant and liaison to the families of the September 11 2001 tragedy. A long-time New York City broadcasting personality and media services company owner, she is the widow of Neil D. Levin, for whom the Levin Institute is named.
Garrick Utley, President For forty years Mr. Utley was a broadcast journalist on NBC, ABC, CNN, and public radio and television; he focused on international affairs and reported from more than seventy-five countries. He has received several journalistic honors, including the Oversea Press Club's Edward R. Murrow award. He served on the board of the Council on Foreign Relations, is chairman of the American Council on Germany, a director of Public Radio International, and a trustee of Carleton College.
Lynne Rosansky joined Levin in August 2006. She previously served as President of Hult International Business School (the former Arthur D. Little School of Management) where she spear-headed the school's turn-around by increasing MBA enrollments by 300%; establishing continued accreditation and launching new revenue sources. As an international management educator, Lynne has been a professor at Babson College; Brandeis University and Simmons College. She has also led a successful consulting practice focused on management and leadership development and served on non-profit boards of directors including Women in World Trade and the Institute for Intercultural Studies. She earned a PhD from Boston University and an MBA from Babson College.
Mr. Moebus joined Levin in July 2006. He previously served as Director of Corporate Relations at MIT, where he helped transform MIT's approach to industry through substantial partnerships with major international firms, and was instrumental in the creation of numerous international programs. He later was Vice Chancellor at the University of California, Irvine. More recently he founded a consulting practice in development and innovation, and co-founded and served as Executive Chairman of OCTANe, a Southern California technology development organization.
Mr. DiGiacomo came to the Institute after a career in law and international finance, including positions at major Wall Street firms and service as the chief financial officer of a publishing company. He is a graduate of Yale College and Fordham Law School, where he has been an adjunct professor.
Ms. Lipton has organized and conducted conferences and events for the Council on Foreign Relations and the World Economic Forum, among others, and is a former award-winning broadcast journalist. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Maine and was a Knight Professional Journalism Fellow at Stanford University.
Mr. Portnoy has over 15 years experience with large, global organizations. His industry expertise spans Finance, Media, Entertainment, Education, Management Consulting, Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals. Most recently Mr. Portnoy was a Principal with IBM Global Services where he provided IT leadership, strategic direction and visionary guidance to key IBM and industry executives in establishing long-term IT policies, processes and implementation guidelines in support of the organization's business objectives. Mr. Portnoy has a Master of Science degree from Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, New York and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Pace University.
Mr. Horan comes to the Levin Institute with 30 years experience in Plant and Facilities Management. He worked for twenty-two years as Chief Engineer in St. Francis Preparatory High School. He is an experienced facilities maintenance manager in physical plant operations, preventive maintenance scheduling, heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems trouble shooting.
Dr. Maryalice Mazzara received her doctorate in International Education from Columbia University. She has served as the Education Attache for the Government of Quebec (New York) and was the Director of Education for The Global Film Initiative and the Director of Teacher Training for Columbia's East European, Eurasian and Russian National Resource Center. Her consulting work includes projects with the Tokyo and Soros Foundations and with Samsung.
Patricia Maull has extensive experience in academic administration, and fund raising both at the national and international levels. She has developed and executed all aspects of international conferences in Europe. She served as liaison to The New York Times Foundation and the Mayor of New York receiving and distributing funds and services to the families of victims of the September 11th tragedy. She has served on the Board of the Stanley Isaacs Neighborhood House, the Advisory Board of City Harvest and is a tutor at Interfaith Neighbors for young underprivileged children.
Cong Cao is a senior research associate with The Levin Institute. He received his PhD in sociology from Columbia University in 1997 and has worked at the University of Oregon and the National University of Singapore. Dr. Cao is interested in the social studies of science and technology with a focus on China. He is the author of China's Scientific Elite (London and New York: RoutledgeCurzon 2004), a study of those Chinese scientists holding elite membership in the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His journal publications have appeared in Science, China Quarterly, Asian Survey, Minerva, among others. His current research interests include China's S&T manpower and US-China relations in S&T.
Houming Fan, Professor at the School of Economics and Management, Dalian Maritime University, has joined the Center for Science, Technology & Innovation in China (CSTIC) at The Levin Institute for a one-year research fellowship sponsored by the Chinese government. His areas of research are Innovation Management and Technology Transfer, Strategy Management and Transportation Management and Systems Plan.
