Levin Institute Chairman

Paul Tagliabue, Chairman
Mr. Tagliabue, the former Commissioner of the National Football League, is the founding Chairman of the Levin Institute. He received his undergraduate education at Georgetown University and earned a law degree from New York University. He has served as a policy analyst in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations where he serves on the Homeland Security Task Force. Before becoming NFL Commissioner in 1989 he was a partner in the Washington law firm of Covington & Burling.

HONORARY CO-CHAIRS

The Honorable George E. Pataki, Honorary Co-Chair
George E. Pataki, the 53rd Governor of New York State, was elected on November 8, 1994, and re-elected in 1998 and 2002. Before being elected Governor, George Pataki served 10 years in the state Legislature and was Mayor of his hometown, Peekskill, New York.

Governor Pataki was instrumental in developing the Levin Institute.

Christine A. Ferer, Honorary Co-Chair
Ms. Ferer is a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and of the Board of Directors of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, as well as New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Special Assistant and liaison to the families of the September 11 2001 tragedy. A long-time New York City broadcasting personality and media services company owner, she is the widow of Neil D. Levin, for whom the Levin Institute is named.

Garrick Utley, President

For forty years Mr. Utley was a broadcast journalist on NBC, ABC, CNN, and public radio and television; he focused on international affairs and reported from more than seventy-five countries. He has received several journalistic honors, including the Oversea Press Club's Edward R. Murrow award. He served on the board of the Council on Foreign Relations, is chairman of the American Council on Germany, a director of Public Radio International, and a trustee of Carleton College.

Lynne Rosansky, Vice President For Academic Affair
Lynne Rosansky joined Levin in August 2006. She previously served as President of Hult International Business School (the former Arthur D. Little School of Management) where she spear-headed the school's turn-around by increasing MBA enrollments by 300%; establishing continued accreditation and launching new revenue sources. As an international management educator, Lynne has been a professor at Babson College; Brandeis University and Simmons College. She has also led a successful consulting practice focused on management and leadership development and served on non-profit boards of directors including Women in World Trade and the Institute for Intercultural Studies. She earned a PhD from Boston University and an MBA from Babson College.

Thomas Moebus, Vice-President, Development
Mr. Moebus joined Levin in July 2006. He previously served as Director of Corporate Relations at MIT, where he helped transform MIT's approach to industry through substantial partnerships with major international firms, and was instrumental in the creation of numerous international programs. He later was Vice Chancellor at the University of California, Irvine. More recently he founded a consulting practice in development and innovation, and co-founded and served as Executive Chairman of OCTANe, a Southern California technology development organization.

Michael DiGiacomo, Vice-President, Administration
Mr. DiGiacomo came to the Institute after a career in law and international finance, including positions at major Wall Street firms and service as the chief financial officer of a publishing company. He is a graduate of Yale College and Fordham Law School, where he has been an adjunct professor.

Margery Lipton, Director, Conferences and Events
Ms. Lipton has organized and conducted conferences and events for the Council on Foreign Relations and the World Economic Forum, among others, and is a former award-winning broadcast journalist. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Maine and was a Knight Professional Journalism Fellow at Stanford University.

Maryalice Mazzara, Director of Academic Affairs
Dr. Maryalice Mazzara received her doctorate in International Education from Columbia University. She has served as the Education Attache for the Government of Quebec (New York) and was the Director of Education for The Global Film Initiative and the Director of Teacher Training for Columbia's East European, Eurasian and Russian National Resource Center. Her consulting work includes projects with the Tokyo and Soros Foundations and with Samsung.

John Horan, Director, Facilities Management
Mr. Horan comes to the Levin Institute with 30 years experience in Plant and Facilities Management. He worked for twenty-two years as Chief Engineer in St. Francis Preparatory High School. He is an experienced facilities maintenance manager in physical plant operations, preventive maintenance scheduling, heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems trouble shooting.

Patricia Maull, Assistant to the President
Patricia Maull has extensive experience in academic administration, and fund raising both at the national and international levels. She has developed and executed all aspects of international conferences in Europe. She served as liaison to The New York Times Foundation and the Mayor of New York receiving and distributing funds and services to the families of victims of the September 11th tragedy. She has served on the Board of the Stanley Isaacs Neighborhood House, the Advisory Board of City Harvest and is a tutor at Interfaith Neighbors for young underprivileged children.

Denis Simon, Senior Research Fellow
Dr. Simon is a Professor at Penn State University. He was the founding Provost at The Levin Institute and was previously Dean of the Lally School of Management and Technology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and has held full-time faculty positions at M.I.T.'s Sloan School of Management and the Fletcher School at Tufts University. He holds a doctorate in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.A. in Asian Studies from SUNY New Paltz. He has worked in the private sector as a management consultant in senior leadership positions for Accenture and the Monitor Group in East Asia, and is a recognized authority on China and the international impact of new technologies. Recently Dr. Simon was awarded the title "Honorary Citizen of Dalian," the 11th American to be given this honor.

Irving Wladawsky Berger, Senior Fellow
Dr. Berger is Chairman Emeritus at the IBM Academy of Technology and is a Visiting Professor of Engineering Systems at MIT. At MIT, he is involved in multi-disciplinary research and teaching activities focused on how information technology is helping transform business organizations and the institutions of society. He is also a Strategic Advisor to Citigroup on innovation and technology initiatives and an Adjunct Professor in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Group at the Imperial College Business School. Dr. Berger worked at IBM for 37 years where he was responsible for identifying emerging technologies and marketplace developments in the IT industry. 

Dr. Manuel Escudero
Special Adviser, Global Compact
Head, PRME Secretariat
Executive Director, Research Center for the Global Compact
From 2005 to 2008, Dr Escudero served in various roles in the Global Compact Office. Until 2007, he was Head of Global Compact Local Networks and later Head of Special Projects and Academic Initiatives. As Special Adviser to the Global Compact Office, Dr. Escudero will serve as a liaison between the Research Center and the Global Compact Office.

Cong Cao, Research Fellow
Cong Cao is a senior research associate with The Levin Institute. He received his PhD in sociology from Columbia University in 1997 and has worked at the University of Oregon and the National University of Singapore. Dr. Cao is interested in the social studies of science and technology with a focus on China. He is the author of China's Scientific Elite (London and New York: RoutledgeCurzon 2004), a study of those Chinese scientists holding elite membership in the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His journal publications have appeared in Science, China Quarterly, Asian Survey, Minerva, among others. His current research interests include China's S&T manpower and US-China relations in S&T.

Dr. Alex Bandurin, Research Fellow
Dr. Alex Bandurin from Russia will joined the Levin research team in July 2008. Dr. Bandurin is leading the Global Talent Index Pool, Russia study and will be working closely with Dr. Cong Cao on optimizing Levin's statistical models. Dr. Bandurin's candidate degree is in economics, with concentration in statistical analysis methodology and his doctorate degree is also in economics, with concentration in corporate governance. He has over 54 publications, including 37 articles, 11 monographs, 6 textbooks on topics of statistical analysis, corporate governance, corporate management and many others.
