JumpStart NYC is a proven, three-month educational program to help individuals leaving jobs in the financial services sector to apply their knowledge, skills, and abilities in opportunities beyond financial services. One of Mayor Bloomberg’s initiatives to boost the New York City economy, JumpStart NYC was pilot tested in Spring 2009, delivering a program that helped participants develop new skills, explore project opportunities in New York’s entrepreneurial firms, and in many cases create new career paths and opportunities.
JumpStart NYC was initiated by New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), its courses, events and seminars developed by The Levin Institute (SUNY), and it’s all at no cost to you.
"I think what it showed was that we all have core competencies that can be used or translated into different areas, as it really showed that our professionalism and our skill set can be used, and that we can do it with ease."
JumpStart NYC includes:
A 5-day intensive boot camp (December 7-11, 2009) at Levin to re-orient talent from financial companies to succeed in small companies.
10-week action-learning project in a firm, including digital media, arts and culture non-profits, green finance, financial and other services. A new feature of JumpStart NYC will include an opportunity to become involved with the NYC’s arts and culture non-profit sector.
Regular mentoring, coaching, and networking
2-day wrap-up session on completing a successful transition.
Interested? The application deadline has been extended to November 29, 2009. (Application plain text version). Participants of the program must be residents of New York City.
